Empirical Formula

The empirical formula of a compound gives the simplest whole-number ratio of the atoms of the elements present in a molecule of the compound. For example, the empirical formula of benzene (large bg_white C_6H_6) is CH, while that of hydrogen peroxide (large H_2O_2) is HO. The empirical formula does not represent the actual formula of the compound.
